Skin Walker's Latest Single ‘What I Came For’ Will Have You Headbanging [And Contemplating]

Durban Alternative Metal band Skin Walker dropped their eagerly anticipated single ‘What I Came For’ on the 26th of March 2024 to critical acclaim. Here’s all you need to know about the single, the band itself, and their upcoming concept album, ‘Transmigration’.

Background

Formed in 2018 by frontman Shane Kayat, Skin Walker weaves together alternative metal with progressive influences, post-grunge grit, and even a touch of punk. The result? A sound driven by distorted guitars, clean vocals, and pulsating drums that'll have you head banging in no time.

The Band

Live, Shane takes centre stage on vocals and guitar, joined by his brother, Brandon Kayat [Sons of Shem, FAET] on bass and backing vocals, and Dylan MacDonald [ex-Your Cynical Sanity] on guitar.

The Upcoming Album

‘What I Came For’ is an explosive single taken off the band’s upcoming album titled ‘Transmigration’. This concept record, written, composed, recorded, and produced entirely by Shane, promises to be nothing short of exceptional.

Shane says, ‘Transmigration will consist of short stories compiled into a timeline, detailing an immortal soul's journey into the flesh and his subsequent struggle with meaning.’

The Single

‘What I Came For’ throws us right into the thick of the struggle mentioned by Shane, and packs a punch while doing so.

Shane expresses, ‘What I Came For begins the struggle with a frantic burst out the gates of peaceful slumber, as the lyrics battle with the inherent unfairness of life in a juvenile way. The song is supposed to be a whine, with the main guitar hook almost nagging the listener.’

Conclusion

‘What I Came For’ is now available on all major streaming platforms as of March 26, 2024. For more updates and to listen to Skin Walker’s latest releases, follow them on Instagram and Facebook. You can also stream their music here.
