Makhathini's Solo Debut: A Groundzero Legend Returns

Makhathini, a name synonymous with the legendary Vryheid group Groundzero, has finally embarked on a solo music journey. The artist, known for his contributions to the groundbreaking hit "Siyaz'wisa," recently released two singles featuring Seagate ST. Lunathi Drops sat down with the Vryheid native to delve into his music and the path ahead.

A Long-Awaited Solo Debut

Lunathi Drops: It's been a while since Groundzero. What inspired the solo venture?

Makhathini: I was fully invested in another project, but the music never truly left me.

Influences and Musical Journey

Lunathi Drops: Where do you draw inspiration from, and who shaped your hip-hop sound?

Makhathini: Life experiences and the people around me fuel my creativity. My brother introduced me to rap and hip-hop in the 90s, and I've been hooked ever since.

New Music and Collaboration

Lunathi Drops: Tell us about your new tracks featuring Seagate ST. Is a joint project on the cards?

Makhathini: "Loverman" was a spontaneous creation. I wasn't expecting the beat, but it inspired me to write the whole song in an hour. Seagate ST's vocals were the perfect addition. "Payday" was initially intended for a female feature, but Seagate ST's input transformed the song. A joint project is definitely in the pipeline.

Hometown Love and Future Plans

Lunathi Drops: How has Vryheid responded to your solo music? What's next?

Makhathini: The love from Vryheid has been amazing. While they appreciate my solo work, Groundzero holds a special place in their hearts. Expect more singles before the EP drops.

Makhathini's solo journey is off to a promising start. With his talent and Vryheid's support, we eagerly anticipate what the future holds for this musical icon.
