IN REVIEW: AMBER LIGHT CHOICES - ‘Stitches’ Singles
Amber Light Choices spike the punch with a triple shot of teen spirit to quell our Alt-Rock jitters, after a decade of distilling the good stuff - their debut album. Produced by Neil Ferreira at Sound Owl Studios, and mastered by Tim Lengfeld, these three singles will singe your nose hairs.
‘Hey My Friend’ grabs you by the hippocampus with its creedcore energy. The progression is fearlessly unrefined, you could lick the cutting room floor, I swear. A leadfoot like Beer would thrive in this scorched earth scenario: something seriously worth the skin damage.
‘Rabbit in Headlights’ is a potjie pot of gold. It’s the strongest song of the trio; a blink-one-eighty-foo anthem that steals from the rich and gives to the raw. Piet and Aleks deliver a barrage of familiar riffs and raff, taking you back to your first fight in the Alternative section of Look&Listen.
‘Rescue Me’ is a wager of patience and payoff. Between Victor and Aleks, the chorus is almost classic, but misses harmonic moments that could hit the koki-painted nail on the head. After a heroic journey, the singer sways on the shoulders of giants, falling short of the unholy trinity - Kennedy, Cornell and Grohl.
Considering the quartet’s claim to careful composition and unabashed performance, a decadal debut is a tall order. So far, this is saltwater; an elemental rush that leaves you thirsty by design. Keep your tabs open for Amber Light Choices’ next major serving. Their full-length album, Stitches, is slated to sting your gullet in early 2026.
