The Secrets To Taking Your Music To The Next Level With Paint Me In Colour

The Secrets To Taking Your Music To The Next Level With Paint Me In Colour

Every once in a while we get submissions from abroad and use them as opportunities to put you onto something sick from outside of SA; this is one of those instances. Liv and Sam of Paint Me In Colour, an independent band from Liverpool, England, are our guests this week, and these are some of the key points they touched on.

The Key To More Streams

One of the band’s singles is currently on 17k Spotify streams and counting, so we had to find out how they’ve gone about achieving this.

Sam says, ‘We were just lucky it got on quite a few playlists; that’s the main thing that really helps artists these days, it’s the playlisting side of things. If you can get on the Spotify editorial, that’s where you’ll really rack up the most streams.'

Not Conforming To Trends

Sticking to your preferred genre might be challenging at times with the appeal of mainstream success dangled in your face often, however, the band touches on not conforming to mainstream trends no matter how appealing they might seem.

Sam says, ‘In terms of sticking with a genre, whether you’re popular or not, that’s just what comes naturally. I think even if we wanted to try and follow whatever is trendy, it wouldn’t be sincere and wouldn’t turn out really well. Even if we followed it through and played it live, we’d have to be into it first, and if we’re not into it, there’s no way you’re ever going to convince an audience or a fan base.’

Liv follows up, ‘Don’t get me wrong, we want nothing more than to be in the hits and be managed or signed or be popular, but we’re just sticking to the thing of, if we keep grafting and we keep trying, hopefully someone might see what we see in us and will want to be a part of it.’

Unlocking The Next Level

When asked about their biggest goal as a band, Liv and Sam touched on reaching all new heights and insisted that a manager and a booking agent would be key to unlocking the next level.

Sam says, ‘I think a big step for us is that we’d love to get managed. We’d like to have that professional guidance and advice on how to navigate through the industry because I know sometimes we’ve made decisions or done things that we sort of regretted. It’d be a big step for us, and I think we’d also love to have some sort of booking agent so we can get the bigger shows. Our live show is so strong that our way of growing would be to just keep playing to bigger and bigger audiences.’

Advice To Musicians

When asked to drop some gems for creatives out there making music, Liv puts emphasis on perseverance and never giving up.

Liv says, ‘Don’t give up; if there’s something inside you that’s like, you wake up every morning and that’s what you want to do for the rest of your life, then just don’t give up. Even if you feel like you get loads of setbacks, just keep reminding yourself why you want to do it.’

Conclusion

Paint Me In Colour is one of the most exciting bands to look out for right now. They’re a band that is informed on what it takes to keep progressing, something that is seen through the importance they place on playlists boosting streaming numbers, not conforming to trends, the importance of managers and booking agents, and embracing the spirit of perseverance. The tools they’ve applied for growth can be used by any creative, and with a bit of consistency, there is no doubt that we’ll be seeing them and whoever applies these rules headlining the biggest stages.
